Default 1998 Sport OEM Fog Light install on an XJ without current OEM fog lights

Hey guys,

New to the forum. I just picked up a 1998 XJ Sport 5 speed manual with 66k miles on the clock.

It does not have OEM fogs from the factory, both the front OEM fog location and the switch spot are currently blanked out.

I'd like to add an OEM switch to match the other toggle switches and also add upgraded (non OEM) fogs to the front. In doing so, I was not sure if Jeep/Chrysler installed a standard wire harness on all '98 XJ's that has wires running from the non existent switch to the relay and the front fogs. If so, then I could use the OEM wire harness, plug in a OEM relay, and use an OEM switch to power a pair of fog lights. If not, I'd have to install my own wire/relay system which is not a problem . . . just a little more work.

Anyone know? I searched, but didn't find anything to answer this specifically.

some of them come prewired for the factory fog lights even tho they are not installed sometimes all you need is the switch and the lights.... you need to look in the bumper area and the switch by the radio to see if the wiring is there...

If you are going to add non-oem lamps like all things factory you can do better. Case in point, only use the dash switch to activate a relay. Then the you can add the relay power directly from the battery located close to the lamps for the least amount of loss.

I'm hoping to do this using the OEM foglight switch. I bought one of the switches, so now I just need to figure out which wires are for illumination, indicator light, ground, and power in. Definitely gonna run it to a relay.

I'll have to see if the existing wire harness in place has support for the fog lights. I might get lucky, you never know. Same for the OEm relay; if the wiring is there then the socket might be live. Otherwise, the socket will be completely blanked out.

Either way, I'll make it happen in the new year.

Aint no meaningful relay in the OEM setup all the power runs live through the switch. The relay in place (two relays if you have DRL) turn the fog lights off under certain conditions.

The factory wiring plugs should be tucked up behind/in the bumper if they're there. Wiring for the switch should be present right behind that panel.

This is from a 99 but should help you out: (C100 is a black connector near the junction block, C106 is a black connector behind the left headlight, G106 is a ground right beside the PCM on the inner fender)
