Default Xj tranny removal.

I have a 89 xj with auto. I am ready to remove the tranny. But there is a metal bracket on the transfer case that the shift linkage connects to that i haven't figured out how to remove. I will call it a rod that goes from the mount on the body to the metal bracket on the transfer case. And the linkages mount to the rod. I hope I explained it well. It is located on the drivers side. Aw4 tranny.

rods just pull out of the rubber grommets.

make sure you get all the small bolts off the trans dust cover before you try pulling the tranny.
i forgot one once, couldn't figure out why the trans wasn't pulling away, so i used a come-along hooked up to my rear axle and pulled the trans away, once she popped, i realized there was a small 3/8 bolt holding the dust shield onto the block...

Caged lol. I did the same thing. I had it seperated about 1/2" from the engine and couldn't get it to move any further. After about 20 minutes of scratching my head, I finally found a bolt on the dust shield that was covered in gunk. After I pulled that it came out just fine. Now I broke the connector between the trans line and transmsission. I squezzed the plastic tabs together and pulled and nothing happened. So I squezzed them together and pulled with some pliers and it popped off (well broke off) lol. Do those tabs just squezz together and pops the line off. I am heading to a junkyard tomorrow to get some more. I just need to make sure I am pulling them off right.

Thanks.

yup, squeeze them together and pop the line off.

the others use a little plastic tool to shove in to separate the grab wire.

Default interchange question

will the tranny/t-case interchange from a 88 XJ to a 91 XJ?
