I just bought a 1998 Grand Cherokee Laredo and it has a bunch of issues but not bad for 500$. But i cant seem to get the hatch to open it doesn't move at all i was just wondering if anyone has any ideas of what it might be or any suggestions as to what i should try.

 

I have the exact same problem right now.. did you ever get it fixed?? the large hatch is stuck closed..

 

You have to remove the panel from the inside and reach arm in to pull latch. I believe your latch cable broke.

 

I think thats what I will to do and the broken cable sounds about right.. thanks for the reply!

before you go to that give her the ol pull the handle and hit the left and right side and see if it opens happend on my friends xj and that fixed it.. well he fixed it correctly but never told me what he did.

 

once you get the gate open, take your favor lube and spray it all over in the latch. that fixed mine.
