Default 1998 2.5 XJ Power Steering Hose

Hi Everyone

My brother has a 1998 XJ 2.5 Diesel Sport and we are trying to source a replacement power steering hose. It is the one that goes from the reservoir to steering box.

Our Jeep dealers in the UK tell us that this particular part was superseded but that both are now unavailable!

Any idea of part number and where I can get one?

I personally own a 2005 Subaru Impreza WRX and often visit our own owners forum, Scoobynet. I will definitely be pointing my brother in this direction as seems to be a very extensive site.

Thanks in advance.

Chris

A good place to start is a salvage yard.

We didn't get the diesel over here in the States. Can the dealers provide you with the 2 diferent part numbers and you post them up?

Think I have found a used one on eBay for around $40, so worth a try. If not, will go back to the dealer for a part no.

Thanks

If the original has a rubber section with simple hose clamps and returns to the reservoir, that's the low pressure return line. The high side from the pump would blow clamped rubber line right off the fittings.
You can repair what you have, provided it is the low-pressure side, by putting the fitting on a short chunk of new line, flaring the end, then using a few inches of rubber line and clamps to attach the new end to the existing metal line.
