1997 cherokee sport brakes
Hi, I just joined the club hope I can learn more about my jeep. I already have a question about the brakes. I was driving down the road and had to hit the brakes pretty hard all of a sudden I hear what sounds like air leaking from the brake pedal I barely stopped lucky there was no one in front of me. I inched the jeep home. Every time I push down the pedal a big gasp of air and pedal to the floor and hardly stops. Thanks for any input.

Pedal to the floor or pedal is hard? If hard it's likely the brake booster has failed. It's vacuum operated and when the diaphragm breaks you'll hear the air sucking through and also loose that vacuum assist. It may also trigger the check engine light for a lean running condition due to the extra unmetered air that enters the intake. It's it's going down far check the fluid level. If the level is good then you likely have a master cylinder failure, but look around for leaks just in case. If the master leaked out the back and fluid got into the booster replace them both.
