1996 Two Door XJ Door Hinge Problem
So here we are, going over the XJ troubleshooting a couple of problems and discovered the drivers side upper hinge is a problem.
It's not too bad, but I did notice a little air coming through the door while driving and traced the problem to the door being ever so slightly 'pulled out' because of the hinge beginning to rust.
When you fully open the door you can see movement where the hinge is welded to the body.
What are the repair options?
I recall seeing it done on a TV show " Xtreme 4X4 " when they did more than just 'repair' the bad hinge. Like they cut a plate, welded nuts to the back of the plate, installed the plates on the XJ and gave some 'adjustability' to the hinge.
Any other ideas? Or know where a HOW TO is for that repair?
THANKS

Any welder can fix that up! It's not a hard problem and it's very command on xjs everyone I know got at least 1 saggy door normally all on the drivers side it's the door used mostly you can also just cut off the bottom of the brankets " pins" that hold the door on cut the bottom part off on both of them cut wires for door speakers power whatever butt connect them and you have removable doors!!

X2, had a gust of wind nearly rip my hinges off of my 2 door. A couple of beads of weld later and she's good as new.

if you open the door take notice the hinge will hit againts it self b4 the stop arm stops the door if you cut the hinge where it contacts it self allowing the door stop to stop the door you will never have this issue

Thanks ....
I am pulling the doors this week and get a look.
I have no power devices in the doors so pulling should be a breeze.
I have a MIG welder and should be able to handle the repair just was looking for any write up on the other fix/mod.

Looking at your picture.
I understand cutting the hinge could be done with door intact, but don't you think it would be advisable to remove the door to reweld the hinge.
With the door on, it limits access to that hinge area, unless you are blasting it with a Stick Welder. ( this could be messy )

I agree with the last addition to his post of popping the pin and removing the door to weld it. I have the same problem with mine, but mine is so bad it actually bent the front fender and now i cant open the door enough to get at the bolts. Any pics on how to remove those pins?
