I have a 1996 Jeep XJ it had a check engine light for a o2 sensor I changed that thinking that it was the problem, drove it for 2 days did not go away. The jeep just dies at red lights, when it shuts I lose power steering, brakes but the headlights and radio stays on. When it is cold it does not do it only when it gets to around 200 degrees (has not happened below 200 yet). Volts stays at 14 volts, oil pressure is 20 at idle 50 when accelerating. I read some forums that said MAF and throttle body but I don't have that much money and I wanted a few more opinions. (No check engine lights)

 

My 2000 was doing the same thing. Wound up being the crank position sensor. Maybe someone else will give more info, I think there is a way to test it to be certain.

 

I get misfire codes when crank position sensor is about to go, in addition to what you are getting (1996 XJ 4.0L 366,000 mi).

First, find the connector for the CPS, disconnect, clean, and reconnect it. Drive and check codes.

Also, check the wires that ground to the engine oil dip stick bracket. I've had to fix those grounds at least 3 times on mine, and they will give you similar symptoms too.
