Default 1995 JEEP -OlllllO- with roof damage above shattered windshield.... UGH!

Hello, my name is Andrew and I'm ignorant.... when it comes to some things, particularly this problem. I have experience working on cars as much as any home garage wannabe-mechanic. As a web designer I'm very good at researching information, except it seems in this situation. I've got a lot of tools and ambition, so here I am looking for your constructive input.

Here's the project:

The Specs:

4.0 Liter Straight 6 CYL
Automatic
Engine Mods.
BANKS HEADERS
K&N Filter
OPTIMA BATTERY

MAGNAFLOW FULL EXHAUST SYSTEM with CAT

INTERIOR: Custom Upholstery and Interior
SONY Radio w/ Removable Faceplate and Remote
REAR Custom Removable Liner for Storage

EXTERIOR
ARB Powdercoated Front Bumper
REAR Metal OFF ROAD Bumper with Swingarm for Spare
MICKEY THOMPSON BEADLOCK RIMS all Around.
PLUS SPARE
BUSHWACKER WHEEL FLARES

My primary interest is getting it to a point where I can get a new windshield in place that fits and seals properly. I don't care about it being perfect- in fact, I see dents on this thing as a badge of honor. If need be, I could get a visor to cover an imperfect roof line above the windshield.

I'd like to do this myself. Initial thoughts on doing this are to remove the windshield and use supported beams through the front side windows and above the hood with a short one over the top of those, then using a screw jack to persuade the roof back into place using a template from an undamaged JEEP as a guide.

Thoughts?

Me? I'd cut the old roof off and graft a new roof on from a donor and be done with it.

My first response!

That was another option I had considered (but didn't mention). From what I've read online, some people think it's easier to straighten what's there (other projects) and they could do it faster than someone cutting, measuring, welding and finishing the transplant.

I am with you though about that idea. I have no doubt that I could cut both roofs off to match very well if not perfectly. I'm no welder though so that would have to be sourced out. The rest is easy- removing trim and wiring....

I would use a port a power and some wood blocks. Play around and see how close you can get it. Cant hurt it any more lol. See if there is a auto body class at a high school or college, they will do it labor free most of the time.

Nice thing about using the scissor or screw jack is you have a lot of control over the pressure you're using when moving the metal.

Buy another Jeep and use this one for parts. I have put several new roofs on rolled over Jeeps in the past and if you don't get it all lined up just right your gonna have tons of headaches. Find Another that has a blown motor or something and take the good stuff from this one and put it on the other one you'll be better off in the long run.

This is true. As far as fixing the current roof, it looks pretty wrinkled. I have no doubt a pro could do it, but for a shade-tree mechanic, I don't know. I know I wouldn't wanna try.
