Default 1993 XJ Tune-Up?

My 93 xj gets horrible gas mileage and I would like to give it a tune up kit & everything I can to make it perform better and run better. Curious what kind of spark plugs, wires, distributor cap, ethanol free gas, etc to use! All help and advice would be nice please!

NGK plugs, premium cap and rotor with brass terminals, Belden wires from Napa. clean your throttle body.

I also recommend NAPA wires. Ask for the best available. Cheap plug wires are not a good deal!

For years I had trouble with my MJ not running right. I pulled my hair out over these issues. One day I decided to replace the Auto Zone plug wires with NAPA premium wires. It was like a had a new engine!

Same goes for the cap and rotor. If you walk into Advance Auto, O'Reilly or Auto Zone and ask for these parts, they will sell you the cheapest, lowest quality things they've got by default. This is because the last ten people who came in said, "Gimme the cheapest thing you got". You don't want this, so ask for the best thing they've got.

Also, buy two bottles of the Chevron Fuel System Cleaner with Techron and pour them into the tank the next time you fill up. Don't bother with any other fuel system or injector cleaner. I've tried many and you might as well spit into your gas tank. Only the Chevron stuff has Techron. Yeah, the skeptic in me says that's just Chevron's name for the same chemical everyone else uses. But like I said, only the Chevron stuff works really well, so maybe there is a difference.

100% gasoline might improve your MPG, but not by much. If it's available in your area, run it. Where I live, all gasoline has ethanol so I don't have a choice. I hear many ethanol horror stories, but I haven't had any issues.

Be sure to also replace your air filter with a good quality example. WIX or Puralator would be fine.

Champion RC12ECC or NGK ZFR5N copper plugs gapped to 0.035"
Brass cap/rotor.
Belden wires from NAPA.
New fuel filter.
New air filter.
Clean throttle body, IAC, and TPS with appropriate cleaner.
Possibly/probably new NGK O2 sensor(s).
Check all vacuum lines/parts for leaks.

Call me in the morning.

Oh, and check your fuel lines. I recently bought a 2000 XJ and it was using more gas than I thought it should. One day I smelled gas from under the hood. I found the fuel line was leaking inside of a clamp that mounts to the intake manifold.

I got very lucky and found a good fuel line at the local Pull-A-Part. Not surprisingly, it's now using a lot less gas.

Today I ordered an ignition tune up kit from kolak@aol.com. Nick has been supplying these kits for years and I've only heard good things about them.

He sold me:
Magnecor KV85 ignition wires
MSD high output replacement coil
Coil adapter harness for 1998+ Jeep
Heavy duty US made brass terminal distributor cap with rotor
Autolite platinum plugs

Total price is $210, which I thought to be on the high side, but well worth it for what you get.
