Is a 1993 Cherokee compatible with a 1996 Cherokee?
See title.
Iv'e got a 93 that the head got blown on and I found a 96 that the brakes are bad on.
Are the parts on these two vehicles interchangeable?
They are both the 4.0L engines. The 93 is a Sport and the 96 is base model I think.

Most things between those years, cosmetically and most engine components are interchangeable. But that all depends, if the motor, transfer case, tranny, trim package etc. is the same. If the 93 is a 2.5L but the the 96 is a 4.0, you can't really change much. You'd be surprised how compatible a lot of the stuff is.

Brakes will be interchangeable on the front axles. They will only be interchangeable on the rears if the rear axles are the same. You can put the head from the 96 on the 93 but, the 93 already has a better head on it. The 91-95 HO head is said to be the best flowing head that was put on an XJ 4.0 motor.

You bet they are... There might be some slight differences thru the years, but since you have both, it's really no big deal...
I'd say get a JY head, and fix the brakes, then you can have 2 good XJ's!

Overall yes it should swap, as long as it is the same engine. Bowtie has a great idea, but if you do swap. I would recommend using the your current manifolds and such. The 96 is OBD2 yours is OBD1

If the head casting number is 0630 then its the better one. Also if you do get a jy head, then I would have it checked, or you could be wasting your time putting a bad head on. Most parts should switch....but like said above use your old intake, sensors, etc. Some of the plugs may be different.
JY is just short for Junk Yard. Also the motors will switch over regardless of manual or auto.

A JY head is a (Junkyard) head from a donor XJ. You can get a head checked for cracks and warpage at any machine shop. It will cost you a few dollars. Would probably be cheapest if you stripped it down before you take it to them.
