Default 1992 Cherokee Laredo Inquiry

I own a 1992 Jeep Cherokee Laredo with the 4.0 I6 engine...

It has 86,000 original miles on it and is in pristine condition...

I took it on a road trip from Michigan to Colorado and back about a month ago and that is when the issue began, well part of the issue anyway...

The first part of the issue is, the vehicle starts really hard, meaning the motor turns over what I consider to be too many times before the engine actually fires. I am looking for any advice as to where I should start in resolving this. It has a new distributor cap and plugs/wires. Well the vehicle has been stored the past 2-3 years in one of my warehouses, but they were replaced new before it was put into storage. The issue was there before it went into storage as well...

The second part of the issue and I guess they could be related is, my check engine light is on. However it came on during the trip back from Colorado and was not on before. It came on at the same time as my oil pressure gauge went haywire, the oil pressure sending unit being replaced resolved that, but the check engine light remains on...

I took it to a local mechanic who put it on his scanner, no codes would come up either, which has me very baffled...

Any insight anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated!!!

Starting hard could be a lot of things, battery, alternator, serp belt etc. Does it crank slow? Try turning the ignition on a few times without starting it (Let the fuel pump build up pressure). As for the CEL I would start by using the key trick to pull the codes, if that doesn't show any codes disconnect the battery to reset the ECU.

Battery, Alternator, Belt are all fine...

It cranks plenty fast, just doesn't start as fast as I think it should...

I have reset ECU many times...

I will try checking codes that way, thank you very much for that link!

Try letting the fuel pressure build up before cranking it.

I was mistaken on one account, the light that is on is the MAINTENANCE REQUIRED light, not the check engine light, the code I got was a 55...

I have the old style...

So, with a little more research, I found that at 2750 hours, this light automatically comes on, sort of a means to make you go have your O2 sensor changed or whatnot...

I already changed the O2 sensor a couple weeks ago, so apparently I just need to find someone with the proper scanner to "trick" the emissions system into turning it off...

Assuming my local Jeep dealership would do this for a kidney or two...

The only thing I could think would be is that maintenance reminder box that would throw the cl. I know on the renix they had it and would either replace it or unplug it. As for code 55 that end of codes. But you should get 12 and 55.
