Default 1992 cam shaft sensor r&r

not to be lazy Im sure this is one of those things that gets asked over and over. But I cant find what Im looking for bad search words maybe?and lack of time at the moment to search and search.

92 jeep cherokee made 6 of 92 4.0L,auto 2wd. 265,000 miles.

I need the R&R run down for the cam potion sensor. the one in the dist.

under stand pull the cap, rotor, pull the metal disc that's keyed, after that Im leary, dose the next metal disc, get pull off the pressed on shaft? for the cam pick up assembly to come out? or am I looking at this wrong?

I wish that I could tell you exactly how to do this but I have never done it myself. Give it a little time and someone will come along and give you all the info that you need to know. I know it can be frustrating. But you don't want someone to give you some useless advice on how to do this. Hopefully cruiser54 will chime in and help you out. He is our resident renix guru
BTW, Welcome to the forum.

I know something that the magic know it all box , dont know now. or atleast that i could find on the interweb.

So I found out you have to pull the dist.happy happy joy joy.....I was about as happy as when you get, bird bird, birds the words, every one know its, bird bird.....stuck in your head.

So mark number one plug wire post location on the outside of the housing, roll, the motor over to the timing marks line up....19mm-3/4,check that the rotor is pointing to your mark on the distb housing.

pull the clamp that hols the dist in.going to need a 7/16 or 1/2 crows foot, and about a foot of ext, or maybe one of the old chevy dist wrenches pull up on the dist to pull it out

dist on the bench, on a vise.carefull not to mar up things to bad. soft jaws work nice here. but can get by with out them...I did

knock the roll pin out of the dist. gear, this was sorta of a . but with the right size pin punch if would have been. rember you need something the same size as the roll pin, something on the inside, will just lock the pin in, even more. heated the gear just slighty to get it slighty warmer then the pin.in theroy anyway. got lucky wiht a 9/64th I belive it was t handle allen wrech.not the correct tool, but sometimes...... since I had every punch size but.

pull the gear.spun the dizzy up side down, gave the shaft a couple taps, and gear slid off pretty easy.

pulled shaft rest the way out, do it slow watch for parts. only had a sheet metal washer that was tabed that I rember.

pull the sensor, wipe out dist housing. I woulndt spary cleaner myself.

then prety much, put it back the way you found it.

getting the distb back in, can take a few trys. if you get the gears meshed up and rotor the where you want, but it wont set all the way down, on the oil pump. line the distb aligment tab off the housing with the hole for the lock down, thread the bolt in a few thread and bump the motor over. it will sit its self down.
