After the whole mess (9 years ago), I ONLY paid for the cats. The dealer ate rental car for three weeks, two more cats (they thought they had ruined two), upper plenum gaskets, fuel injectors, and a few sensors... I shouldn't have paid for the cats, as they weren't needed.

Didn't mean to keep you all on the hook. I don't think the service guys wanted me to see them doing a redneck fix. On the 3.5 Chrysler V6, the plugs are down in the heads. So, what they did, and I caught them doing, was wrapping the insulators for the plug wires with tape. The insulators break down and ground the ignition to the head.

Dealer wanted $185 to replace the plug wires. After the whole mess, I should have insisted on them for free. But instead I walked across the street to Kragen and bought lifetime warranted wires for $45. About 20,000 miles and they break down. First sign of trouble, I took them to the store and swapped them out.

If I'd known to look up TSBs then, I'd have tried the wires before anything else...
