It runs now I replaced the fuel pump harness and it seems to be good now. Not saying its perfect but I will find out soon enough. Thank you for all the great info. I've learnt a lot and I'll make sure to pass along the little bit of wisdom I've gained to the next person in need. Really appreciate it guys. Thanks

Hey guys so my cherokee has been running great until a couple days ago. When I accelerate there's a loud whining sound and it rumbles. Any suggestions?

If it cranks but won't start, check the ignition coil resistor. It's a white rectangular ceramic block mounted on the inside of the driver side fender. This was a common problem on older vehicles.

Hate to burst your bubble, but that's a fuel pump ballast resistor. It's there only to reduce the voltage to the fuel pump in the Run position.

I had this problem twice with my first Cherokee which was a 93 Sport. It turned out to be the crankshaft position sensor both times except the second time it also blew out a fuse. Don't remember the fuse location, but believe it was one of the small ones in the fuse panel under the hood. Hope this helps.
