Hello All ,
Time to pick the experts minds ! I bought this 1990 jeep cherokee laredo 4x4 knowing it had reverse problems . He said when u put in reverse it wants to die and not move . Said he has taken to several dealers with no luck . Well he was right . What I have done and know so far . I put it up on jack stands check all axles and brakes . On jack stands in reverse it runs just fine no problems what so ever revs up with no problems . On jack stands and on the ground forward gears all work fine . It only wants to die in reverse . It do doesnt want to rev up u can floor it and your lucky if it revs up to 600 before dieing . So folks there u go ! Any ideas ? Any help would be wonderful . If u put it in 4 low u can barely get it to move in reverse .
Thanks,Brad

I'm going have to get dirty and go underneath it. It's getting too cold up here for driveway repairs. It drives fine in all the other gears....

I've got the same issue and the wife is getting upset about the stalling. I found one bolt just laying up high on the housing. Are there any good pictures of the bellhousing to motor bolts?

As for the trans bolts, the two I can see are not Etorx so must have been changed. On a previous post, a poster said that the two topmost bolts are 3/8 -16 and the other two are 7/16 -14. FOr some reason, I thought they were metric but the ones at the 9 and 3 o'clock position (or maybe 8 and 4) aren't 3/8. I thought they were metric so I bought M12 but they seem to be too coarse of a thread. The weird part is the hex head of the one that was attached to the bellhousing/motor conection fits a 16mm socket which is why I thought it would be metric. I am missing at least the one trans bolt t this point on the trans housing near the starter but I don't want to strip the hole with a metric bolt if it's wrong.
What gives here?
