that is a compression leak, a vacuum leak is a leak of the vacuum lines.

During the intake stroke on a four stroke engine, as the piston moves down, if the exhaust valve is not sealed it will pull in exhaust as vacuum LEAKS around the exhaust valve. Likewise, if you have broken/worn rings, as the piston moves down vacuum will LEAK past the rings and pull in crankcase gases. I'm not trying to be a jerk but this is still a vacuum leak even tho it's internal. This will cause low vacuum numbers and will not increase the idle speed. With a lot of our engines pushing 200K or more miles this is probably the culpret in at least some of the cases of poor idle.
