Is my 8.25 rear good for what I want
95 xj 4.0. 8.25 rear 30 in the front (I think). I'm wanting not only an everyday driver but something I can mild to moderate off road and trail blaze (no rock crawling). Is my 8.25 enough for what I'm wanting to do or should I up to a 44 ?????

Like I said. No crawling. Maybe in time a lift and larger tire but for now just general off roading mudding a little trail blazing and daylie driving

I think you will be fine. Im upgrading my 27 spline 8.25 to the 29 spline. I plan on keeping my 33's and locking it eventually. I did a bunch of reading and research on the subject of axle strength. Try this link, lots of good info, http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=101345
I decided on getting a 29 spline 8.25 because mine is a daily driver and a moderate offroader, at least for now. I think these axles are underestimated just because they came stock in a lot of later model xj's, but so did the dana 44 in the earlier models...
If you are really worried about strength go with the ford 8.8, very strong, can come with disc brakes and is easily modified to fit on an xj.

The 8.25 will get you a lot farther than the D35. Whether it be 27 spline or 29 spline, it's much better than the D35 which seems to be prone to breaking axles every other day.

From what I could read about the subject, the 27 spline C8.25 is only marginally stronger than the D35. The 29 spline is the strong one and came in 97+ XJ's. It is almost as stong as a D44.
I currently have a D35 and will hopefully be swapping in a C8.25 29 spline soon.
I got my information from a XJ performance and builders guide written by a moderator at NAXJA.org.

You could have also got the information from any Jeep forum. It's common knowledge once you've done a bit of reading. I swapped a 8.25 for my D35 about 1.5 to 2 years ago, it's locked with 33s and I do rocks. Holds up just fine.
