Exclamation 1989 Jeep Cherokee Overheating

Hi i have a 1989 jeep cherokee. 4.0L. i live in arizona and my jeep runs really hot. The temp get to around 230 and doesnt seam right to me. Ive replaced: Water Pump, Thermostat, fan clutch, flushed radiator. but it runs around 230 degrees. i have a 13lb cap on my radiator. could this be causing the overheating? i think there needs to be a 16lb cap on there but not sure if thats causing it to overheat that much. Any help appreciated!

I would get the 16psi cap on there...also, can you verify that temperature with an infrared thermometer?

Yes, i verified the temperature already and it was accurate. Do you think the 16lb cap could cause it though?

Boiling point goes up X amount for every 1lb, IIRC. So the difference between a 13lb cap and a 16lb cap could easily be the difference between overheating or not. Also what T-stat is in there, did you go for any old 195* t-stat or did you go with a mopar 195*?

"flushed radiator"

Did the old coolant look like coolant or mud?

I went through 3 of those crappy things before getting one from the dealer.

83501426AC is the part number.

Your radiator could still be clogged somewhat inhibiting flow.

Where are you in Arizona?

oh no most definetly not. I brought my jeep up the back way through like yarnell skull valley and that, and trying to pull the hill going up past congress by jeep started acting up and shifting out of gear . that was a good solid 4 months ago. i actually just put in a new radiator today, and its running right under the 210 mark, is that good?

Perfect. Your radiator was messed up. I prefer going to Phx the back way. Nicer drive. Way fewer idiots. Stop at the Skull Valley General store if you wanna see what life was like back in the olden days.
