1989 DJ antenna
I am looking to get my question answered, could I use an non-stock antenna on my 1989 jeep Cherokee or do i have to use OE one? I am going to put an aftermarket radio in, it still has the stock one.. I know this is for non-modified..

Is it worth the risk? That's your call.
if the condition of the antenna and the coax cable and plug is good it will work just fine for fm reception.
edit: misread your post either one should work fine

I'm just wanting to know do I need a OE antenna because it's not coming out so it needs to be fixed or replaced whichever one, i just want to put a different style on but was told it has a sensor for say on it that it uses to turn the radio on but it's built into the motor system so would it just work with say an antenna that is like a cb radio one? If you get what I'm saying..

Did they have a power antenna option on an 89?
I feel like the power antenna is like the popup headlights on my first car (a POS firebird)... a completely useless cosmetic item that is bound to break and make the vehicle look ridiculous. That's just my opinion though.

It's a 1989 jeep Cherokee limited edition it's the luxury version of the Cherokees of that time so of course they had to put a stupid pos on it to make it so nice, but breaks an leaves u without music lol.

This.

You really need to seriously consider these things.
Other than that, go ahead. It's just an antenna. If you can find one that fits, go for it. There is nothing special about an antenna.
Unless it's gold plated, of course. That would be special.

Note from DJ
Do you even hear the antenna motor trying to run when you turn your Radio On and Off.
The antenna motor is activated through a relay that is activated when the Radio is turns On and Off.
You’re into a very time consuming job to replace that antenna. I removed mine because every once in a while it would fail to cancel out the down mode and the motor would keep trying to run in the down mode; which would then cause it to turn Off and On by the internal thermal overload in side of the motor and the next day I would have a dead battery.
