Default 1988 rear main seal replacemet

Please help I have a 88 Cherokee chief 4x4 4.0 liter I don't know how to do this. But I'm willing to try, I've heard several ways mine has a split seal where it's 2 pieces my friend says we have to disconnect the transmission the drive shafts transfer case then slide the tranny back and take out the seal clean the sleeve and put the new 1 in. Now i heard another way where you undo the oil pan and pop out a barring or something and there is the seal this way sounds easier and faster I just don't know all the steps please help

Is that the video were the guy uses a straw from a fountain soft drink to guide it in as well as dish soap?

I don't know about the soap part (ignorance, not disdain) but using a straw split in half to get it started is actually a pretty damn good idea. There have been a few motors in my past that would have really benefited from a trick like that.

If I ever get the gusto to do so, I'm gonna try that on my 4.0

I wouldn't go after the RM seal if it was really the oil filter adapter O rings leaking, blowing back, and mimicking a rear main leak.... just a thought!
