Default 1988 lift question

just bought 1988 xj with a 3" lift. i want to run 33" and was wondering what i would need to do. don't mind cutting fenders. would it be possible to add 2" spacer and aal. what else would i need to get.

Depends on what it already has. You'll be putting the control arms at a steep operating angle and you will get a rough ride. Rough Country has drop brackets for this that are very popular but i'm not sure if they are for teh 88's or not. Brake lines, sway bar links, and shocks will need to be extended or new longer ones purchased. The front trackbar, if stock, needs to be replaced with a longer one or adjustable.

can you check to see what aftermarket components are already on the jeep, perhaps some pictures of the control arms, trackbar, shocks, and stuff that way we know what you already have and can help you better.

Another option would be cutting and bumpstopping. Chop off the fenders as much as you need and then add bumpstops to stop it just before it rubs. Do you have stock wheels or aftermarket? If aftermarket, do you know the backspacing?

edit:

they should work for your 88:

What these do is lower the control arm mounting points so reduce the steep angle and greatly improve the ride characteristics. A worthy component to have on a lift higher than 4.5" with stock arms.

To throw in my 2c, I would go with a shackle instead of an AAL because the shackle wont hinder your ride quality like a AAL will.

Might also have to add an SYE. At 4.5" you will need lower arms but can use stock uppers. I agree use a shackle if possible, much better option.

oh to answer your question, i dont thikn you should lift it, it gets exponentially more expensive the higher you go. if i were you id just run like some 32s, you could fit 33s theyd rub a lil bit more but who cares, put your money elsewhere. my 2 cents

you can fit 32s underthere with the lift you have. and the SYE your gonna have to get, it doesnt matter what you do - if you lift it up that high your going to have to get htat done. just stick to 3" and be done with it. unless you want a new lift, a full RE superflex lift once you get shox and all the crap you need is like $1200
