What is the wattage of the factory fog lights on a 1988 laredo 2 door? Connected two new PIAA 55w fogs up and blew a wire before the relay thankfully while using the factory connectors

I want to lean towards that they are also 55w. I have an 88 Laredo, and put new 55w foglights on because the old ones were pretty much just cubes of rust. Haven't had a problem. I would suggest maybe checking the wires. I just used a pair of 55w from walmart or advanced, maybe your new fog lights required some thicker wire or something?

Mine were also cubes of rust, the left one had the housing rattling around in there. My friend ran these on his back rack just fine he only took them off cause he didn't like the way they looked on his rack but are perfect for my jeep and the wire to the housing on them aren't that thick either that's why it would of been an easy install but it didn't go that way when it burnt the linkable fuse

Maybe the fuse was just faulty or somethin. a 55w set should go fine in the stock wiring. Just wire them seperately and see what happens.

That's what we're planning on doing, I just hope I can wire them to the factory switch. My dad has an 89' yj and he put in some nice KCs and he said even though he has a relay and everything he still couldn't get the lights to work on the switch

Sometimes the switch could be crappy. That happened to me with my fogs I put on. I tested them on a battery and they wouldn't work. I went to my buddy's, hooked them up to the battery in my jeep, hooked up a ground, got a different switch, and they worked fine. I recommend getting a small circular on/off switch. I have a green one to the right of my steering column in the dash. We drilled a hole into the dash with a bit just smaller than the switch and popped it in and fits snug. A little trimming might be needed, but it's better than a hole too big. Looks nice and clean and its not very noticeable. My girlfriend rode in it with me the day after and she didn't even recognize the switch till I showed her. Theres room there for other small switches too, if more holes are drilled. Be careful running the wires up through though. We hit somethin with the power wire and it sparked and fans turned on and scared us pretty good. We thought we blew somethin. Cover it with tape or don't strip the wire till after its through the hole for the switch. Best of luck to you. If this doesn't work, find an electrician. haha.
