1987 XJ Cranks But No Start
This is a project Jeep & before I spend any more money just want a pro's opinion. No spark so I cleaned the plugs, distibutor cap & rotor then got a new coil & still no start. Thinking next I'll get a new crank sensor. But #5 injector's leaking too. Any advice? Thanks, John

I second the motion of cruizer's mostly Renix fixes. His list has helped me and many others out. Pay close attention to all info regarding the cps.

Finally got her running!!
Thanks for all the help. I replaced the CPS but that was not the problem. Then I gave it a blast of starter fluid & and it started for only a few seconds. So I figured maybe it jumped time & bingo that was it. My neighbor set the timing for me & now it runs like a beast! Ready to move on to the next phase after the holidays.

Timing's not adjustable...
Oh no, I actually have not seen it run except for a few seconds with starter fluid. My son told me that it fired up a ran. Then they took out the battery so I have'nt tried it yet. And I gave him $50 to pay the neighbor for setting the time. Sounds like he's full of it! Thanks, I'll keep you updated.

Nope..still no start.
My son gave me my money back. I jumped the gun & miss understood then made a druken post. LOL... It will only run for a few seconds if I spray starting fluid in the throttle body. Apparently that's all the other guy did too. Maybe next I'll try the Cam sensor. Any thoughts?

if it runs a bit after you squirt starter fluid in the throttle body,i wouldcheck to see if the is fuel pressure at the rail,if not might be a bad fuel pump

Your description leads to the fuel pump ballast resistor or the fuel pump relay.
The ballast resistor gives battery voltage to the pump on cranking and then gives it 9 volts when running. Located near the air cleaner. If it fails, the Jeep won't run in Run position. You can jump it for testing purposes.
The relays on the passenger side of the engine bay can be swapped to test for a bad fuel pump relay.
