Hey all,
I have a 2000 XJ with about 230k miles. I have been occasionally losing overdrive on the express way. It seems pretty random, and sometimes if it happens I can stop, turn the car off and back on again, and then it won't happen for a bit. It threw a P0705 code, which most people say is the neutral safety switch. I did however replace this with a new one just two years ago, so I have to believe that isn't the problem. I was sure to align it properly when I installed it.
This issue has only been happening for about a month now. I did also change some tranny fluid over the summer, just what was in the pan, and I didn't change the filter.
I topped off the tranny fluid two weeks ago, and it is definitely full.
Any help would be awesome

Did you use the correct fluid? Maybe try adjusting your kickdown cable. Search "free fix" on here, I think that is the right one. It's also in the Haynes manual on how to do it. Maybe could be one of the solinoids or something to do with the TCM. I'm sure that someone more knowledgeable will chime in.

While you're on the expressway, when it loses OD, try lifting up on the brake pedal w/o letting off the gas. If the brake light switch is out of adjustment, it can cause problems with OD and torque converter lock-up. Hopefully it's a simple adjustment to the switch.
