Straight to the point....Is an 87 XJs water pump reverse rotation or not?


I brought in my pump, the parts monkey gave me what he said was the correct one. Mine is blank on the fins, the new one is stamped "R" making me concerned...

 

Are the impeller fins curved the same way on both?

 

Oops. That I didn't think to compare. :/

 

I thought all 4.0's had the same flow direction.

 

I read on NAXJA that they were not.

 

I just talked to my parts woman. She said 87 through 00 only thing that changes is the hub height.

 

Hub...you mean the pulley?

The descriptions I read showed the different hub heights. But I'm sure I saw a different rotation...

According to one guy out of the chatter they changed direction when they went from v belt to serf belt.

BTW the serpentine deal is true. The chevy dealer across town got a trade-in. A CJ from Cali with serpentine drive. Installed a v-belt water pump and fought an overheating issue for weeks!!!
