1987 4.0 Renix question
originally, My problem was that it would stall when coming to a stop at red lights and idle would surge and go back down, etc.
I did everything that was suggested by cruiser54 on his list, even did away with the C101 connector. After all that, it idles great and no more stalling out.
I replaced with new;
CPS, TPS, ISM (IAC), MAP, O2, EGR, Knock
coil, distributor (everything), plugs, wires.
fuel pump, filter, injectors and caps
compression on all cylinders is 165, 160 on cly 6.
went over the whole vacuum system and replaced all hoses.did a vacuum test on exhaust restrictions and was fine.
My question is when checking the volts on my CPS, it is reading .2 acv, when my research suggested it should be .5, I've read that this should only be an issue if it doesn't start. mine starts right up and seems to idle fine. so the .2 reading is fine?
It sputters when starting out with very poor acceleration. once i'm above 35mph it doesn't seem to have any problem, even when accelarting to get on the interstate (no sputtering and accelerates normal). It seems to only happen when accelerating from a stopped position.
It has been suggested to me that the torq converter could be bad, but the RPMs don't race up when trying to accelarate like it should when it's slipping.
