1984 Cherokee won't start
i have a 1984 jeep cherokee v6 2.8L
it was starting before just fine, then I believe the starter went bad
I had already replaced spark plug cables and spark plugs
a buddy of mine stuck his wrench down on the solenoid and did something to make it spark, then it didn't spark at all after he did it a couple more times, he said the starter is bad, so I replaced it
I turn the key, nothing, it just makes a tiny CLONK noise
i checked the battery with a DMM and it reading above 12 volts
new starter, fresh battery, not starting..
you guys know what the problem is?

Check the voltage of the battery while trying to crank the engine over, it should not drop below 9.6 volts with a load on it.
alright thanks, I'll try that, but I believe I figured out the problem, only to get a new problem...
following the ground cable from the solenoid, it was actually unhooked, it gets hooked to some component near the side of the hood, to the left of the battery
-now it's properly grounded, it will crank or turn? but it whines likes it out of gas and doesn't start
so i put 3 gallons in
I had to change the fuel pump just to get it to start before i ever had starter problems... so I'm guessing maybe I need a new fuel filter, i'll going to yank off the fuel line to the carburetor to see if it's getting fuel
