1758th overheating thread no a/c or aux fan anymore?
1996 HO 4.0 automatic 4x4
Yes Im searching but I'm out of town (not in the jeep) and my phone is acting really strange.. anyways..
Ill list any related problems I looked over before leaving
Well apparently the a/c worked a couple months ago before i purchased it. Im honestly not sure if i even hear it kicking on.
The truck runs hot even at 60mph flat roads. It was 95 degrees and very humid
20130611_120550_zps8a19c7b7.jpg?t=1370889207
When parked it started getting into the red so I shut it off
Also turning on the heat had little to no effect in temp
Now today its nice in the 80s it would run between the middle tick and the tick before the red doing 50mph (was a short run so it may have heated up more) when parked it only heated to the tick before red .
I noticed my aux fan did not kick on. (A/c related??)
Now here is another thing it has had ignition problems not starting i have a new ignition switch for it (i tried the wiggle the shifted with no luck) It starts for me every time since buying it so I never put the switch in.. I'm wondering could it have effected my fan or a/c coming on?
Anyways after shutting the jeep off the mechanical fan spins free for 3 or 4 seconds and stops.
I also can hear what sounds like water POURING from the back of the engine. . So I think I'm having separate issues... Could my stat be stuck not letting coolant circulate correctly? Obviously I need to figure out what my fan issue is.. Any input

Regarding the E-fan not coming on: in your model year the PCM/ECU uses a separate temperature sensor from the gauge in the dash. You need to verify that your coolant actually is getting that hot as you may simply have a failed sensor and low AC refrigerant. Then again maybe the PCM's sensor is shot. Need to verify with something like an IR thermostat

Now that I think about it I could move the fan after the engine is at temp.
It doesn't move very easily but I can turn it I thought it just locked and spun at rpm
The whole ir thing idk what to do other than find a shop

why must people redneck and rig up crap.. i have an aux fan on a toggle hooked to the relay box with a fuse and spades connected to random missing fuses with an extra 3 feet of wire electrical taped up under the dash running to.. nothing,,, now I know why I have no fan... ripping this crap out and paying the $25 for a new relay.. I'm hoping nothing is messed up ... now I'm scared about what other things the p/o "fixed"
I'm sure there is a similar correct way to wire it but just the way I had random wires under the dash with exposed ends really concerned me. pics coming soon

ok this first pic looks like they actually knew what they were doing (i think since idk anything about what is done here) but at least there is an inline fuse to kill power which is good right..
also at least it's tied up and out of the way so that's good...
so here are the original 2 wires coming from the relay slot.. 1 is cut? I can't find anything this went to.. maybe ignition area? I don't see anything else.
here is another wire.. the spade was hooked in to a random fuse location i ripped it out so not sure which one it came from but it wasn't the same one as the next picture it was higher up. notice the spade wire goes to nothing?.. then there is a black wire cut (i thought at first maybe hooked to that wire that came from the relay? but the black leads to nothing...)
I have no clue what this goes to...
toggle connected to... itself?

Hopefully someone can post up a '96 wiring diagram for you and you can just cut that **** outta there

I've already unplugged it from the relay spot and unhooked the 2 wired in random fuse spots under the dash. it's just some random gauge red wire I see it at walmart in the automotive department (I work there so I noticed it pretty quick)
Idk which wire was the actual hot wire but I assume it was the one with the inline fuse.. now I HOPE a new relay fixes the problem. I think they spent more money and time wiring it all up than it was worth.
