10' vs 08' Grand
First post, so be gentle
Here we go: I am buying a Cherokee tomorrow! Been looking for about a month now and finally narrowed my choice to two.
1) 2010 Grand w Laredo package. 3.7 V-6, 2wd and 74k miles that is listed for $15995. The wife likes, but I am not too sure because it is only 2wd and I think that is pricey for 2wd (this dealer may budge on price some)
2) 2008 Grand w Laredo package 4.7, V-8, 4wd and 67K miles that is listed for $13900. It has the "Trail Rated" logo. I think this is the better buy because of price and the 4WD; thinking the 4wd would yield a better return in 5 or 6 years. She is worried about gas mileage.
What am I asking?? I am asking for input from the people that know jeeps: Owners. I can surf the web all day for reviews, articles, and "professional opinions, but the people that drive them everyday, own them, and love them know better than some magazine editor. So that is what I am doing here. The rest is up to y'all...fire away.

First off, fuel mileage difference between those 2 aren't going to be that big of a difference. The '10 will get 18 combined while the '08 will get 15-16 combined. If she's worried about fuel mileage buy her a 1987 Honda Civic and don't waste your money.
4wd is a MUST in any thing with a Jeep badge on it. I personally think they were stupid to manufacture a 2wd Jeep in the first place.
Between those two vehicles it should be a no-brainer...
The 08 has 4wd, a larger engine, more towing capacity, less miles and a much cheaper price.
Buy the 08.

welcome to the site... you are asking pretty important questions...
1st things 1st... a 2wd jeep... If you want a 2wd and think your going to save gas your wrong... they use just as much gas because unless your jeep has awd only 2 wheels are turning... so it is in 2wd most of the time anyway unless you put it in 4wd...
Now both of the jeeps weight pretty much the same but putting a smaller motor in a jeep will make the smaller motor work harder which in turn uses more gas.. power to weight ratio... and the 3.7 liter is a dog.... and is not gas friendly in a big suv... maybe on the test track it looks good on paper but not real world conditions... getting the v8 and 4wd is a good package for everyday use....has less miles and has more options
If you are honestly worried about gas mileage you should not be looking at suv's and you are correct the 4wd in 5 or 6 year will net a better return when it comes time to sell... i understand that it is 2 years old but it is a better package hope this helps... I would buy the 08 hands down between the 2

Don't care much for any WKs but the 08 is definitely the better choice between the two. The 3.7L is a waste of time lol. Even in smaller and lighter vehicles it is a dog.
You might check out the Grand Cherokee section of the forum. Not many people really understand that a Cherokee is a different vehicle from a Grand - the WK and WK2 (which is the 2010 model) are 3 generations removed from the XJ. You might find a few interesting tidbits, or at least grab the ears of people more familiar with the vehicles: https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f5/

We went with the V-8 4wd. It drove out great and she fell in love with the color! Funny thing was, the V-6 was a 2 hour drive in one direction and the V-8 4wd was a 2.5 hour drive in the other direction, and when we got to the place where we had to make a left or right turn , we got a call that the V-6 had sold...that left us with the option of going SW for 2.5 hours instead of SE.
BTW...this GC has the "Trail Rated" badge on the driver side....exactly what is "Trail Rated" ?
