Default 1 Different Size Tire...

Hey guys. I recently found that my Jeep has three 215/75/15's and one 225/75/15 on the front right wheel....

With that being said, I have a brand new spare that is 215/75/15 that I could put on to have matching tire sizes BUT it is brand new! The other tires are all worn down a bit...

Firstly, what is the best thing for me to do at this moment? Put the brand new tire on with the other matching ones, or leave the oddball in there since its evenly worn with the others?

Secondly, I was thinking of buying one more brand new 215/75/15 and putting it on the back with the other brand new one Ive got, and then two worn down 215's up front.

I realize this is confusing, but I guess I'm wondering how EXACT the tire sizes need to be. Will three 215's with 50% tread be a bad idea with one that has 100% tread? I dont have a ton of money to throw around so I'm just trying to do the best with what I've got available.

Thanks for any info!

Buy one new tire to match your other new tire... With a 4x4 you should have the same kind of tires on the same axle... Put the 2 new tires in the back... Keep the other worn 215 as a spare... And throw the 225 in the garage just in case... That is the most cost effective way to do things... And make sure all your tires are the same brand and tread on the same axle hope this helps....

Gaaah yea it helps. It just appears as if the tire brand doesnt make that size anymore or something..

Its a Goodyear Wrangler RT/S.

Buy a used 215 from Craigslist, JY, used parts guy, etc. Then sell the 225 to make up some of the lose. Around here used tires are $3-25 at JY.

How did you determine this, are all the tires in question the same brand & series?

Im located in Rhode Island. Yea all 5 tires are the same brand. Goodyear Wrangler RT/S's. Odd that only 1 is a 225 thought. PO must have got a flat at some point.

I didnt even think about scoping for tires at a junkyard. I've scoured Craigslist pretty hard at this point. Was hoping to get some matching sizes before I pull the trigger on some Soft 8's, which is what i was HOPING to blow all my money on haha.

What do yall think of 4 matching 215/60 R15's

Is that a little too slim for an XJ? I plan on keeping it at stock suspension height with 15x8 Soft 8's. Might have a more sporty vibe to it? Any pictures of such tires on an XJ?

That tire size will be nearly identical to stock in width but 3" less in diameter. The 11% speedometer error aside, I think it might look funny in the wheel wells.

Look for a set of 235s or 30x 9.5 that's the biggest tire you can put on stock with no lift

Mine is the same way, all my tires same brand but 3 are 30x9.50's and the 4th one is a 235/75. I don't run lockers so it's not going to hurt anything at the moment. Not sure who had the tires put on but they got gipped. It won't hurt anything if you have open diffs, just run it.

Myself I might put the new 215 on rear, mainly to have the fronts match in case of an emergency stop. Again "myself", I might not worry to much about the worn and unworn. Any time you are not going straight one tire is turning more. Yea in part time there will be a binding/discrepancy, but I only use part time when I was slipping anyway.

215s .. are station wagon lookin .. so ya know

I bought 4 cheap for my 1st XJ, last set of tires i put on that ride, price was right

they worked great for price .. but looked tiny

they did cut thru 2' of fresh snow in 4x4 . besides lookin small, they kicked butt .. I'll give that praise to the 4 x 4 though
