which 1.5" to 3" range lift kit is the best buy?
I read some stuff and am still not sure.
Let me start off by saying that my friend needs new shocks on his 91 XJ. I found some Bilstiens for 60 dollars a shock with "free" shipping.
But I also found the Rubicon Express has a 2" lift kit for 260 http://rubiconexpress.com/Suspension...px?part=RE6160 spacers and AAL, RC has 2 kits. a 1.5" http://roughcountry.com/jeep_xj_1.html for 250 spacers and shackles and a 3" kit for 256 http://roughcountry.com/jeep_xj_3.html coil springs and AAL. I read on here that AAL end up sagging and that you should upgrade the shocks on the RC kits.
So what is the best buy?? The RE kit and don't install the AAL and just buy some shackles? There was no plan to lift the XJ so if it makes more sense to buy the Bilstiens then I will tell him to just get those instead.

I hav owned a few lifted vehicles mostly fords but I have the BDS 3' and couldnt be happier. When I say I have beaten it for 40k miles you cant imagine the things this xj hasbeen through. Been through 3 steering boxes and cracked the uniframe, never had an issue with the suspension.

try Old man emu, from what i've heard they offer the best ride...They offer something aroun a 2.5" kit I believe. Not cheap though, you could go 4.5" for the price you pay for OME.
Best bang for your buck, Bastard packs and or shackles and grand cherokee v8 upcountry coils up front. Super cheap and rides well. then you save money to spend on shocks

Ok, here is the thing, We are not looking to lift it. It needs shocks bad. So if any of those lift kits have shocks in the kit that can handle hard bumps and dirt roads with a washboard type surface, then I will suggest to me friend to buy the lift kit because it has shocks with it. If none of those shocks are good, he will then just get the Bilstiens shocks. Also, I know you can upgrade the shocks but that is just raising the cost. Which he can not incur right now. Hell, he can't even afford shocks but the ones on the truck are toast. So saftey is first and he needs to just put them on a credit card or something for now.
