Default 0331 Head from 03 TJ.. Not TUPY?? Use it anyway?

So I believe my 01 XJ has finally come down with cracked head fever (220k miles, those those of you wondering) after testing for combustion gas in the antifreeze. It explains the occasional pressure bubbling I hear from the cooling system (when it's a relatively cool day?) and that sort of thing.

By way of old friends and a parts train I got my hands on a head from a 2003 TJ with 90k miles, known to be be good running when removed. It was to my surprise (and disappointment) to find it does NOT have the "TUPY" casting. He had the vehicle since 60k.

Any input? Anybody seen a 2002+ non-TUPY 0331? I'm inclined to just run with it instead of trying to hunt down another core...

Don't do it. "Free" could end up costing you more than a $450 Clearwater head.

I agree and wouldn't use it. You would be essentially putting the head with the same casting defect that you previously had on it.

As the old saying goes....."fool me once, shame on you. fool me twice, shame on me".

I'd either find a TUPY or go with a Clearwater Cylinder head.

Good point. You can not go by model year.....an early 2003 can have an '01 engine!
