01 XJ with cracked 0331 head...
So I've got a 2001 XJ with 173K miles and a cracked 0331 head. I was looking into replacing the head with a clearwater one, but after labor costs and whatnot I'm halfway into a new engine at that point.
I'm already getting some relatively low oil pressures. Hot idle is ~10psi (sometimes a bit lower/higher) and pressures never get above 35-40 when accelerating above 1500rpm.
If I'm going to drop the $1000-1500 on a new head, a reman runs about double...and if I've already wiped my main bearings and am looking at a new engine in the future, I may as well do it now.
My reservation is this...all the remans I've looked at come with the 0331 head. I really don't want to drop $3K installing a reman with the same faulty head as before.
Has anyone gone this route and has anyone found a reman without the dreaded head?
Thanks!
