Default 01' Xj bogging down in 1-2 gear selection.

OK i have had this problem for a while now. If i put my gear selector in 1-2 at about 30-35 MPH the tranny will go in second. If i keep the revs below about 2300-2500 RPM and then floor it or give it any gas to accelerate, it will rev to 3k and then bog back down to about 2700 - 2800 and then the revs will slowly climb. Here is everything i can think of to include that will be of assistance. 2001 Xj, 4.0, aw4. 187k miles. 235/75 R15 tires. airaid cold air intake kit. exhaust is stock to the cat and then a thrush welded then a turn down dumped before the axle. I am including a video of the problem as well. in the video i put the tranny in 2nd and then hold the revs and then push the pedal all the way to the floor both times. Thank you for any suggestions ahead of time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=http:...?v=oZHNK31CwiU

I'd start with verifying proper fuel delivery. Must be done with a gauge. Fuel delivery should be ruled in or out early in the troubleshooting process.

For an 01, you should have 49 psi at idle, plus or minus 5 psi.

Plugs fresh? I like NGKs in the 00-01 with the distributorless coil pack ignition

i bought the jeep about a year ago and i have not changed the plugs but they look clean so im guessing they are not that old. How would i go about checking the fuel pressure?

Gotta use a gauge to properly check fuel pressure. Call around to some local big box parts stores as they often will rent you this gauge. It is easy to install it on the schrader valve (looks like a bike tire valve) on the fuel rail. Then just read the gauge with the engine running.

I live way up in the mountains in Colorado and it's a 2hr drive to anywhere that would rent a fuel pressure gauge. I found this online and had it in my hands in under a week. It worked like a charm in diagnosing my fuel pressure loss problem. Plus it comes with a ton of fittings so now I can rent it out since I'm the only person I know in the whole county with one, aside from the garages! hehe Very easy to use like TJ said!

Fuel pressure tested 49 at idle and around 47 when revving the motor. Any other suggestions?

Agreed. Could be torque converter or a slipping band, For the AW4 when you hit 40 and if your light on the pedal it should shift into over drive. Hows your transmission fluid level? Check it by letting the engine warm up to operating tempriture and put the transmission in nuetral with the hand brake on then pull the dip stick and read the level.

Ok I checked it. It read right at the max level before the kink. I also attached a photo of the color of the fluid. It smells burnt and is really brown. Looks like engine oil. Thanks for the help guys.

It drives normal. Sometimes It shifts kinda hard but not to bad. under normal driving conditions it seems to shift fine and never slips. I have my reasons.. Thanks for the help again.
