Hey guys, new here. Having a issue with wife’s 01 grand Cherokee Automatic. Pulling off from pet store and jeep wouldn’t shift outta first. When you would expect it to catch 2nd and nothing would be there,it will just rev until slowdown enough then catch 1st again. Now I replace the tps (that tested bad and it was running rough) and nothing changed, except the rough running got better, still stuck in 1st though. There are no trans code and no engine code also. No when I throw my scanner on it and watch the data stream while driving it will say it’s in 2nd grear but nothing happens. The out put shaft sensor is reading and speed sensor are also reading correct. Here is the kicker, when I pull the Tcm relay I can shift it manually just fine except OD. I’m think a solenoid maybe. Has anyone had this issue? Also this trans has never had any issues before, always very strong and smooth shifting. Any help would be super cool.

 

Sounds like a bad shift solenoid, since the trans computer is reporting that it's in 2nd but it's not. You'll get a better response asking in the Grand Cherokee forum, as it has a different transmission than the regular Cherokee.

I have to agree, though. I have both, and The Grand is a nice enough vehicle, but it just isn't the real thing!
