So here is the situation. While in Atlanta the AC comp went bad. Had a shop put the bypass pulley and a new belt on. Didn't want to spend the money on parts or labor when I could do it myself once I got back home to Indy. Anyway, got back to Indy fine, got in one morning a couple days later, started it up and it threw the belt. Later found that the fan was also hitting the crank pulley. So, it sounds like the AC bracket bearing might be bad but I have pryed on it etc and it "seems" to be ok. Also don't understand why the fan was suddenly hitting the crank pulley but that also points back to the bearing unless there is a spacer that's missing, could be the repair shop, that first thought the problem was the fan clutch, may have left something out. Ultimately I think a trip to the junk yard for a replacement is in the future but if anyone has thought it would be greatly appreciated.

Let's take it one step at a time - do you suppose they removed the fan for easier access to everything, and if so, is it situated in there correctly? Make sure the fan isn't what's out of place before you go blowing a bunch of money.

That was my first thought, items that might have changed. As far as can determine nothing seems obvious to me but..... Which leads me to another question, is there a spacer if some sort that spaces the fan closer to the rad and therefore further away from the crank pulley.
And why does all of this cause the belt to want jump off the fan pulley.

Same thing happened o me a month ago. I thought the motor mounts were shot but it was fine then I thought the fan was bent. It was neither. In face your crankshaft pulley are about to explode. It's actually a harmonic balancer pulley. It's two piece and when it get older, it ll seperate
Buy new pulley it should be 60 bucks

XJwonders, thanks for the input! Would've taken a while for me to get to thinking it was the HB pulley! After some research it seems the Doorman replacements might be a little sketchy fit wise, any thoughts on this.

So I picked up a new HB from NAPA, and a bolt about an inch longer than stock, put a little grease in the new HB and it went right on with no trouble. Thanks for the help guys!
