The knock sensor (PN 3300 2933) was discontinued in 1996.

Now that picture looks familiar... In fact that's my Jeep when I did the airflow experiment with the shroud on and off...

Are we sure the original PO's not experiencing the old transfer case shift handle rattle? Just for kicks, push on the TC shift handle and see if the problem goes away.

From the 1997 FSM, page 8D-2:
"The amount of electronic spark advance provided
by the PCM is determined by five input factors:
engine coolant temperature, engine rpm, intake manifold
temperature, manifold absolute pressure and
throttle position
"

Why do you say that? Sounds exactly what is going on with mine. I just want to make sure something else is not going on with mine.

That was it! I disconnected it and it stopped immediately, i reconnected it for now until i can run to the parts store.

On a side note i think i am going to check my torque converter bolts as well because every once in a while at idle in drive i have a weird rattle, i will let you guys know on that one to.

Bryan was right though, you can not hear it at all outside of the jeep. But if you put your hand on it you can definitely feel it kicking. It must be the way it is anchored to the firewall that makes the noise travel easily into the cab.

Mine was like that too. You have to put your ear very close to the exact area to hear it over the engine noises, but I guess because it is connected to the fire wall it resonates inside the cab. You can feel it more than you can hear it from the engine bay.

HA! by one minute!!

Well i replaced the part last night, took all of 3 minutes. Unfortunately the new part still makes the same sound inside the cab, just not as loud. Knocking sounds drive me crazy so i am going to take the mount off of the firewall and cut a piece of dynamat and put it in between the bracket and the firewall to see if that deadens the sound. i will let you know.
