Default quick power question

my 91 Cherokee would not turn over after a quick trip to the store. So I called my buddy and we boosted it, started up no problem but as soon as I took the cables off it died. My question is would the problem be my alternator?

If it is my alternator what do you guys recommend as far as the amperage of the alternator because I know there is a few different amperage?

Yes, sounds like the alternator. You can use a stock 100 amp or a V8 ZJ 130 amp.

Yes it is the alternator that will cause this, but I would have it tested first to make sure. I would reccomend tha you get the highest amp alt you can for your application weather it is 61,90,100,etc.

Thank you for the quick response. I have another couple questions

Has anybody ever rebuilt their alternator? Is this something you would recommend doing? The reason I ask is because Im on a fairly tight budget being the holidays and all.

Also are there any other alternators compatible with a 91 4.0 ho xj because my local pick and pull doesn't even have any 91 xjs. With the price I was quoted from napa (260) for a new 90A alternator, I need explore some cheaper options to get my dd up and going
