Sometimes a member may need an answer in a crunch. I understand it uses more bandwidth. Do not allow pics in the shout to reduce BW.

Nah we don't have a shoutbox at all. I don't think VB has one by default.

 

VB does I am pretty sure. Only issue is it stays on the home page if you chose to use less BW.

 

That would be pretty cool and you can set it up so it doesn't pull too much bandwidth. Should be an easy set up.

 

We have one on my local car club site, but that works because we only have 100-200 active members. Problem is if you were to put it on a site as huge as CherokeeForum, you'd have conversations ontop of conversations.

Our main CherokeeForum Facebook page has group chat enabled, and while it was a blast to use, because you met random people from CF, it was a nightmare trying to have a conversation.

 

Yeah shoutbox's are neat but on a site like this I just can't see it being managable. Appreciate the suggestions but for now I think we will steer away from it.

 

What's a shout box?

 

Basically a chat room at the top of a main forum. But vBulletin also doubles it as a list of most recently posted in threads.

this forum is too big. smaller forums can use them other wise you have an average of 70+ at any given time talking about 140+ things. gets confusing.

then a smaller facction will dominate the SB and when newbie asks a question he gets laughed at.
