WTB: NP231J transfer case
I am planning to swap out my 249 so I can have 2WD.

Why not go with a NP231J. It's a much stouter TC IMHO and you should be able to find one that will bolt right up. The 231 gives you a real 2WD as in front axle is disconnected where as the 242 just unlocks a diff in the TC but the front axle is still connected all the time.

UPDATE: I've decided I must have the AWD option for hauling my sled, and for just plain driving around in the winter, so I need the NP242.
