This article applies to the Jeep Grand Cherokee ZJ (1993-1998).

Whether you are upgrading your headlights and turn signals for cool aftermarket models, or simply replacing an old, foggy and worn out set for nice and clean ones, there are a few steps to keep in mind. Clear and clean lighting is mandatory not only by law, but is very important to drive safely wherever your Jeep may take you. We've compiled a step-by-step guide on how to remove the old assemblies and replace them with new ones. Keep in mind you could also perform this work at your dealer or repair shop.

Materials Needed

  • New headlight housing
  • New turn signal housing
  • Torx 2 screwdriver

Step 1 – Remove turn signal

In order to gain access to the main headlight housing, you must first remove the turn signal housing. Open the hood and locate the two Torx screws located above the headlight and turn signal and blow the headlight and turn signal housing, then use the number 2 Torx screwdriver to remove them. Then simply unclip the wiring connector to disconnect it and fully remove the turn signal housing.

Step 2 – Remove headlight

Now that the turn signal housing has been removed, you can gently use force to pull the headlight housing out. It is imperative that you only pull a couple of inches at at time, until you can reach behind the housing and disconnect the wiring connector. Then you can fully remove the housing. Once removed, make sure the wiring and bulbs are in good shape.
