Yes, that's true. However, most teens have picked up a copy of Petersons, JP, Crawl, etc. where they also preach responsible wheeling. If you hang around the forums enough, you'll hear it there as well. It's not like they don't know, they just choose not to be responsible. And honestly, these are the kind of actions that hurt our sport.
I've been lurking around the KL specific forums though and I've yet to see anyone talk about illegal wheeling. That is why I made this thread. I understand some KL buyers have owned other Jeeps before and are aware of what is right/wrong. Yet there are people who are stepping into their first Jeep and have no clue what they're doing.

Im just trying to point out we are possibly sounding a little harsh with calling out these new KL owners. I'm part of another club that's had a reputation of being a little brutal to newbies. Just trying to pump the brakes a little before that gets started here. Just my 2 cents.

I don't see why you guys are assuming that a KL owner who is going to try and off-road it has never offroaded before? I would imagine that most people who buy the KL are a.) not actually going to off-road it (just like Rubicons/XJs/everything else) b.) "Country folk" who are going to use it to make it across their farm roads and c.) Someone who has indeed gone off-roading before.
I would imagine it will be in that order too. (Just like XJS/Wranglers/WJs/Commanders etc). I suppose there may be a few that say "now I have a Jeep, Im going to go get stuck in the mud" but not many. I have not EVER heard of someone taking a brand new Commander and tearing across someone private land so why would a KL owner? With very few exceptions, everyone I know who does stuff like that is indeed a teenager in some 500 POS.

Haha I was not trying too. I apologize. I understand your first post and the purpose behind it. It is certainly good to follow- It was some of the other comments I was referring to- I don't see why there is the belief that "there will a wave of new KL drivers breaking all the rules." Certainly to any new KL riders out there, look up the laws where you live and if you really want to go wheeling, look into your local Jeep/4x4 club. More and more trails get closed ever year based on off-trail destruction/poor maintenance/leaving trash all over etc. That applies to all of us though

A lot of us KL owners are not new to Jeeps or wheeling. We know the rules and will keep an eye on the newbs.

I personally like the new KL. Looks sharp, but still doesn't compare to the classic XJ. It does have a nice body style and seems to do well off road as well. Found a video on Youtube, but i don't know if anyone's posted it yet.

Looks very familiar, the only interesting bit was driving over the loose rocks. I really wish these videos would show more of that, highlighting the Active Drive II system, instead of well manicured dirt roads that I used to drive in my 1998 FWD Tercel. And yes I'm being serious.

I did. It had a bit of an incident with a Blazer that resulted in some - ah - front end compression...
Put snow tires on it and drove many of the backroads here to all of the Scout camps for a couple years. Thing used hardly any gas, one summer I drove it to Toronto on $14 worth of fuel. No A/C so I had the windows down doing 130 KM/H (~80 MPH for the metric impaired) and a 14" desk fan on the passenger seat on a little plug-in inverter.
