Unhappy Exhaust pipes getting real hot?

Okay so I have a 1998 Jeep Cherokee 4.0 L RWD. So this is a relatively new problem, it happened right after I changed the transmission fluids and filter, I turned it on and I noticed that the exhaust pipes were getting abnormally hot to the point of smoking (my windows even started fogging up) which I immediately turned the engine off in fear of a fire hazard. What might you think that could've happened for the exhaust system to start acting this way? When I changed the transmission fluids and filter I made sure everything went back the way it did, I thought that maybe I may have put too much transmission oil, but I checked the dip stick and it said it was fine! It never did this before, what can I do to fix it? Thanks!!

I think you might want to post this into the XJ forums, friend. This is the KL forums which is the new Cherokee. '84-01 is the XJ.

That said, did you drop any fluids onto the exhaust where it was actually burning off? Which area in specific was getting too hot, like near the front of the car or near the rear?

trans and brake fluid same effect, did you break a dip stick tube? sometimes over filling them will cause them to leak around the seals
and im getting my vehicles confused.. but its a shot in the dark...

When you were under the Jeep, hands covered in trans fluid, did you by chance grab the exhaust pipe at any point. Chances are it is just some oil transfer and will burn off with no issues.
