Pics of 97+ center console in 96 and earlier XJ
just like the title says, i am looking for anyone who has pics of a newer style center console in the older style XJ. i am interested in doing this swap to have integrated cup holders, and a better looking console. please if anyone has any and has done the swap could you post them here. i was told that the parking brake might need to be moved over, i would just like to know if you guys who have done it, is it worth it?
Thanks
Thanks

did it in my 93.. best mod evar. cupholders. these pics are from fall 07 i think... lol
cut both vent tunnels apart and put them together..
WITH TAPE
got the ebrake working by using the old ebrake line and a turnbuckle
mounted it using self tapping bolts.
wooot
eventually covered up the gap with a switch panel like a year later

if all your lookin for his integrated cup holders. I have a friend with these, they look really nice in her 92 limited. cheep n' easy.
Rugged Ridge factory console cup holder for the 1984-1996 Jeep Cherokee XJ. Easy no-drill installation, uses existing screws. Will hold cans and mugs (but not plastic bottles or large cups). Also makes a great change holder! Still allows e-brake to function. NOTE: If vehicle is equipped with power mirrors then power mirror switch can be relocated to cup holder
Offered by AutoBarn.com at 12.95 USD

yea i agree they suck, thanks for the suggestion though. e went that route and they were more in the way then helpin...and some people would say, "what the hell do you need cup holders for in a jeep?". well i say to that "to go to Taco Bell after a long day of wheeling cause i am HUNGRY (and the wife wont shut up till you feed her!)!"
and the console just looks so much better. i am looking forward to getting one.
my thing is, i have a 5 speed as well and i c in your pics 96_xj that the shifter doesnt seem to fit right. did you have a problem with it fitting right?

I think there's some pics of mine on here somewhere.
There are a few options.
I just slightly bent the pre-96 brake handle to disengage completely.
You can also, shave off some of the material towards the center to make it fit without bending it.
Or, you can use the late model handle and adapt it to the early cable system.
