Default Strange Surprises under Steering Column

So when I was putting in my remote start / keyless, I came across some strange stuff up under the steering column. I've got some pics, any ideas? The green thing says its an emissions control or something and has all these weird cogs and gears inside.

The emission box is like a timer, set to trigger CEL around 88,900 miles IIRC to replace 02 sensor.

I have one of those yellow boxes too! Pulled it from my '86 XJ since someone replaced the stock steering column with one and didn't transfer the cruise control stalk, I removed the box. Wonder if it's ebayable?? Anyone need a cruise control box from a 86 XJ, 2.8L?

Put it in the For Sale section. Someone may need one as 86 parts are getting hard to find.

Ohhh okay.. So i'll keep the emissions box, and I can get rid of the cruise? I don't have cruise on my steering column. There is a random cut wire sticking out by the wiper / blinker switch... I wonder if someone had put this in at one point... I don't need cruise, Think it'll be fine if I just unplug it?

Thanks guys

I removed both modules, and have not seen any problems whatsoever. Since I don't have cruise control and don't need the emissions light timer, it lets me unclutter my kick panel a bit
