01 XJ engine run away
Hi guys,
I have an 01 XJ and I am getting engine runaway at startup.
Luckily I was able to stop it before over rpm.
Any suggestions would be appreciated

Check the mechanical side of things first. Pop the hood and check the throttle body linkage for binding. With the engine off, open the throttle body manually (using the linkage) to see if hangs open once you let go. Let it close slowly and take note of any drag. If it closes without binding or drag, the TPS or IAC may be to blame. If the throttle does not close smoothly, the return spring behind the linkage may be binding (dirty) or broken, or the cable is binding in its sheath. Another possibility is a vacuum leak. Even if the CEL is not on, check the vacuum lines. You never know.
If you are still stumped, it is likely electrical, but i wouldnt know where to start for something like this on an OBD2 vehicle.
