Default Any ideas on what to do with this bumper?

I bought this xj and it had this HUGE bumper on it. I think it looks kinda cool as is but found out today that she gets in the way. I want to shorten it and install a winch. Can anyone tell me what the mesurements are for the winch mounts? And any ideas on best way to shorten it?

I think typically winch measurements are about 10" x 4.5" but thats the measurements for the bolts, the winch is longer and wider so that needs to be factored in to!!

take it off get a set of AJs offroad bumper mounts

then put the winch as low as you can and as close to the body as you can on a stand and build from there

Makes a nice front seat. Just put a cushion on it and you can tailgate off the front but then I guess it would be bumpergating...Whatever

Most winches tend to be 21" wide x 6.5" deep with a 10" x 4.5" bolt pattern for mounting. You definitely have enough room on that thing!

how it is now, mount your hi lift on the rear part of the bumper. drill hour holes for the winch, and you should be good to go. You will find that your bumper will help you turn better in the woods. (using trees for guidance and bumping)

I really like the bumper its beefy i dont really want to sell it. Just maybe shorten. I am not a fan of mounting a hi lift on the outside i have mine mounted to the back of the rear seats it out of the way.

As for keeping the bumper..What thickness is the metal? If it is notatleast 3/16 it may be more hassle to stiffen it to handle a winch then it would be to start over. Just a thought, but if it cant handle a winch then it would be harder and may end up ugly trying to brace a winch plate and tie it into your frame.

The actual mounts look thicker than 3/16 and i know the tubing will hold up. As for braces it has a lot of strength from what i can tell. Taking it off tonight to play around with some ideas.

If they are atleast 3/16 you should have no problem at all. See what you can come up with. Its only metal, if you dont like how it turns out reconfiguring for a winch , you can always build another one.
