Question Electrical Issues

Got a 89 XJ 4.0. Just recently I lost some accessories on the jeep. I check fuses and all are good. The list of the following accessories have no power or don't work.
  • Radio
  • wipers front & rear
  • blower motor on hvac(won't blow any air out vents)
  • rear defroster switch
  • sport/comfort tranny controller switch
  • left or right turn signals
  • cigarette lighter port
  • horn
  • high beam selector

The dome light, dash lights, headlights, back-up lights, power windows & door locks all still work

ANY SUGGESTIONS OR SOLUTIONS

Check for power at the purple wire on the ignition switch. That wire feeds all of the accessories you listed and the switch has a high failure-rate.

No power at the purple wire?

Check the red wires into the switch.

Power at the red wires?

Replace the ignition switch.

Quick-test: start your Jeep, then rotate the ignition back a couple of degrees and see if all starts working again.

Won't spin or won't run???

Check all of your fuses again.

You may have touched some terminals while you were prying the connector off of the switch.

There are more under the hood. Use a test light and make sure they actually have power.

There is a little hole in the bottom of the switch for that upward pointing actuator arm.

For those who have contributed to this thread, THANK YOU. This was invaluable in trying to figure out why my ac/wipers/turn signals would not work. Thank you thank you.

Just replaced the ignition switch on my 94 XJ yesterday. Similar symptoms - all fuses good, but no blower, no turn signals, no wipers and no radio. Found other threads on this forum indicating the ignition switch.

One tip for those replacing: I too had the issue of not turning over once I installed the new switch. After carefully examining, I noticed that I hadn't tightened the new switch enough - so that when the key cylinder was turned to start (the farthest position), the actuator rod would pull the entire switch towards the wheel, rather than engage the start position in the switch. Some re-adjustments and she started right up, with blower, turn signal, wiper and radio power.

I had to place the Turn Signal Relay, it's under the drivers side dash and cost about $40
