Default front end accident

i hit a tree wheeling today and my front end smashed in. i was able to drive it to a street to get it towed. one side was perfect but on the other the hood was bent up, the fuse box next to the battery was slightly smoking and my front axle was bent. if anyone has had a similar incident or could guess an estimate please tell me! i have a 98 2 door cherokee. thanks!

Some pics would help to determine the amount of damage and get a better estimate for repair cost. Different angles and also of the undercarriage damage.

If your talking about taking it to a shop to get fixed it's going to be at LEAST 1500, probably more. If you have insurance your probably looking at a totaled vehicle but not to worry, you can buy it back for pennies on the dollar and use the money they give you to fix it on the cheap, that is.... IF you had full coverage insurance AND they are willing to cover your "offroading" accident.

if you hit it that hard to bend the axle more then likely you tweaked the uni-body which is not worth the price to fix it your insurance is going to total it

Not in a Cherokee, but if you figure the shop rate for most places is 40-80 an hour, then figure 15-30 hours your already into it 600/1200 at 40/hr or 1200/2400 at 80 on hour and that's just labor. You still have parts to consider, paint, and if your front axle is bent and has to be replaced that could be a big chunk all by itself. I hit a tree in a brand new 2004 Mustang GT and it was over 12,000 to fix it and it didn't even set off the air bags!

you might be much better off finding a 4 banger XJ and carrying your usable parts over. i've had a few owwies in a unibody vehicle and the frame apparently desperately tries to stretch in the front. besides if you had smoke coming out of the fusebox, it might end up being a problem that you'll be chasing down for a good while.

How'd you bend the axel hitting the tree at 5mph? If it's truely like the one in the pic that's most likely an easy fix. If you hit the tree right in the middle that would be easier yet...
post some pics when you can...

Did the same thing not to long ago minus breaking the axel. But did push the door in. I did all the work myself with JY parts. Found some same color and all. Lots of hammerin and tweakin and it went back great. But maybe i was just lucky! haha
