My rear wiper suddenly stopped working.

Before I start to troubleshoot, is there a rear wiper motor relay in the circuit?

If so, where is it located.

It is in the rear hatch below the wiper motor

1990 xj hatch wires

 

Yes, relay exists.
Check underhood fuse box first label says "RR WIPER." If not there, look behind glove box. Swap with horn relay to test quick.

 

The 1990 manual shows it in the hatch as I have posted. The original poster has a 1990 xj per his information next to his name. 1990 fuses are under the dash on the left side inside the cabin. Late model XJs have fuses in the engine bay. Perhaps late model XJs have the relay in engine bay, but the 1990 has the hatch wiper relay in the hatch as shown.

 

The relay is in the rear hatch as stated above, just replaced mine on my 88.

 

I finally took the rear cover off and found that the relay is in fact working (swapped with another known good relay) but the wiper motor is dead.

As with most things with the 90XJ parts are different from the other model years.

The OEM motor in it now is made in France.

I cannot find a supplier for a rear wiper motor for the 90XJ, can someone help me source one.

Nevermind. I found one a NAPA.

Before you spend money on a new wiper motor...make sure the wire/ wires are not busted where they come through the rubber boots into the hatch

 

There’s 12v coming out of the connector that mates to the motor so the wiring is good.

It turns out that NAPA cannot source these wiper motors anymore and no other parts store carries them.

I can’t even find a used one on Ebay.

Before I scrounge around the bone yards does anyone know who rebuilds these motors.
